I have a motherload of brown algae weekly in my 30gl tank. Its all a scavenger tank with some serpaes. Are there any fish out there who eat this menace?
My Chinese Algae Eater's do! They have literally cleaned everything in my tanks...too bad they grow as big as they do and have a tendency to be mean! Good luck!
small CAEs really do eat a lot of brown algae. BUT they get huge (up to 1') and once they get past 4"-6" or so, they tend to eat less algae and become aggressive though. you win some, you lose some.
Also, try to look at the cause. Could be too many nutrients in the water(waste and leftover food). I've heard that this causes brown algea on the glass. Also, if injecting CO2 via yeast method you might not be getting enough. That seemed to be my problem as the brown algea is gone in my 20g after increasing the CO2 flow.
My ottos wont touch the hair algae or the brown algae. they will only eat the slomy green stuff. I think brown algae is like a last resort to them or something
