because i have these darn little white things running around on the front glass and they just seem like bad news. its not the typical flatworm shape but its like a really tiny grain of rice. they move pretty quickly when a shrimp walks by on the glass. i wonder if i still have my microscope from childhood. hmmm...

i've seen a baby shrimp that resembles an adult shrimp but does a newly hatch shrimp look like a shrimp and can they be clearly seen as a shrimp?

it's only in my cherry tank.

but i did just kill a hyrda in the orange tank.

they look exactly like a grown up shrimp, but they are completely clear with a black dot. They are VERY tiny. It easily could be baby shrimp you are seeing, they are like greased lightning!

they look like mini cherrie shrimp just really small.

What you have are called copepods. Try googling the term and you'll find lots of good info. They are not harmless at all, in fact, they mean you have good water quality in your tank.

I take it there are no fish in the tank, then they are probably copepods, they are harmless little critters, they swim in jerky movements, cyclops, seedshrimp and other little dot types. Here is a pic of a cyclops. If there are lots then net them out and give to any fish you have as a treat.

well from the naked eye i dont see any antennae or a tail, they are white (no black dots) just like the shape of a grain of white rice only tiny. they dont run on the glass in a jerky movement usually a curve or straight path when bothered by a shrimp. i dont know about their swimming.

they might not be baby shrimps then.

yes, there are no fish except an oto.

can anyone recommend a fish that shouldn't eat baby shrimps or pick on adult shrimps too much? maybe they'll eat these things.

thanks for the inputs. i've never seen these things before in my previous tanks. and at first assumed giant ich, lol. that would be nice. be the first to create super ich for the hobby. sorry.

well i just saw my first lil'shrimp it's about 4-5mm long. i havent seen any shrimp smaller than that.
i still dont know what the white stuff are.
but i did just find my childhood microscope. haha. now to dust it off.
