almond leaves are used in tanks with Kuhli Loaches, to replicate their natural environemnt as much as possible

Thanks SnakeIce. I'm actually looking for something to lower pH in my 5gallon planted Minibow. The pH is 7.8 and I think it's from the Onyx Sand substrate that's in it.

The inhabitants are 2 ADF's. I think after all that "tea leaf" reading, I'm just gonna go out and get a piece of driftwood. I think the frogs would like that more than floating leaves.

If you have a substrate that is adding a lot of buffering capacity to your water, it will be basically impossible to bring the pH down significantly with natural things like leaves or driftwood. Every bit of acid the leaves and wood produce will be neutralized by the buffers in the water.

These leaves when soaked in water releases a special tannin that will tan the water slightly and lowering the Ph. It provides not only a natural environment for bettas and other soft water species but also keeps pathogen outbreak out of bay. These leaves can be used on All range of soft water species, eg: Labyrinth fishes, Discus, Dwarf Cichlids, Arowanas, Plecos and Chracins. Since tropical almond has antibacterial properties, it is excellent in this regard. Proven safe and effective.
Let me know if you are interested in them :)
