I'm curious what the discus keepers here feed thier discus. Maybe the info can help us all provide our discus with a better well rounded diet.

Mine eat the following:
Frozen Brine Shrimp (don't like them much)
Live Blackworms (thier favorite)
Frozen Bloodworms (second favorite)
Jack Wattley Discus Formula
Tetra Color Bits (only 3 of the 6 will eat these)

They won't eat the following:
Omega One Flakes
Tetra Cichlid Flakes
Tetra Tropical Flakes
Azoo Discus Pellets

Frozen:
Wattley Discus Formula
PE Mysis
Brine Shrimp
Hikari Bloodworms
Formula 1&2 & Prime Reef (Marine food, but they like it)
Minced Silversides
I add Selcon to all of the above

Live:
California Blackworms (this is their staple food)

Dry:
Spirulina wafers
Nori Sheets

Grocery store:
Minced fresh or frozen squid, octopus, shrimp, clams, scallops etc. occasionally
Broccoli and zuchinni

Puma and I Feed the following:

Pellets:
Sera Discus Color Red and Blue

Frozen:
Hikari Bloodworms
San Francisco Bay Brand Brine shrimp
Hikari Mysis Shrimp
Wattley Discus formula (only one will eat it)

Freeze Dried:
Sera Krill
Wardley Tubifex

Live:
Mosquito Larvae when we can get it, occassionally live brine

Variety is really the best thing for Discus, thats what it comes down too.

OK, have to add my 2 cents too

I'm new to owning discus so I went through the gammat of different foods and the rejections and finally stuff they like to eat:

Likes:

Frozen:

Cichlid delite
frozen blood worms (favorite)
Frozen brine shrimp
Mysis shrimp (will eat but seem to like brine shrimp better)
Will eat sometimes Ocean Nutrition Special Formula VHP, but I don't like it's consistancy.

Dried-

The one thing I've found that they like is:

OSI Discus Flake -
I have some other dried foods on order so I'll see how those go (dried beef heart, dried earthworm).

One frozen they sometimes eat but for the most part don't like is a frozen food that the name is escaping me for the moment (something tropical fish). It comes in a "wormlike" shape, but it floats and looks more like grey fish poop.

Cearbhaill: Nori sheets...hadn't thought of using those. Do you think they go over well with other cichlids?

I feed mine:
Tetra Cichlid Flakes in the Morning

One of the following in the evening:
Frozen Bloodworms (Favorite)
Frozen Brine Shrimp (Second Favorite)
Frozen Beefheart

Live: CBW, Brine Shrimp

Frozen: Jack Wattley Discus Formula, Bloodworms, Mysis Shrimp, Brine Shrimp, Beefheart

Pellet: Tetra Color Bits, Ocean Nutrition Formula One and Formula Two.

simple diet

My discus get NewLifeSpectrum Growth pellets 2 - 3 times a day, and Beefheart/shrimp/garlic/vitamin mix, frozen then grated 2/day. Sometimes I give them dried bloodworms or frozen shirmp or daphnia or bloodworms but I regard this as a treat, not an actual meal.

Siphon bottom 2x/day, change water 50% every other day. Triple filtration: Penguin330 w/biowheels and refillable clamshell frames with padding, HOT 250 with EfiProSubstrat, HydroV sponge\ in a 105 galllon tank.
