Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what some of the more mellow Central American and South American cichlids are? I know it's all relative, but what has been your observations for choosing a more docile species? I have a GREAT cichlid/freshwater store here in Denver, but his estimation of mellow is a bit tainted since he carries Wolfs, Sabertooths, Red Bellies and the likes. I already have a pearsi and 3 severums as well as a temporalis and a lyonsi. Getting rid of my jardini before he goes renegade and staying away from thrashers!

Thanks,
Steve

Oscar, Firemouth, Convict (when not breeding), Acara (various types)...

There's a few...

Keyhole, multispinosa, severum, honduran red point, t. sp. mixteco, festivum

I second the keyholes. also altispinosa, ramerezi(dwarf rams). but like most cichlids they will defend breeding territories.

if you want more exotic and don't mind clean water...discus , angels and flags(severums)..
