May be a dumb idea, but I was explaining the python to someone (who does not keep fish) and they suggested that a waterbed filler might be cheaper and might work. I haven't looked into how they actually work, but has anyone filled a waterbed lately?!?!? What do you think? I'll probably end up buying the python anyway, but it was just an idea

i slept in a water bed until i went to college. The "water bed fill kit" consists of the same part that comes with the python that attaches to the sink to allow the hose to syphon into the sink. It does not, however, come with hoses or (obivously) the gravel vac piece.

if you can FIND a water bed fill kit, you can make a DIY python using this part, an RV type water hose ($10 at walmart for 25 feet) and the top half of a soda bottle to vac the gravel. in the end it might save you a few bucks, but wouldn't be as convenient.

*edit* just found this... http://www.abcwaterbed.com/wbcare1.htm
comes with a lot of stuff you don't need, and i bought a python at walmart for the same price!

Oh well, worth a try right LOL!!!!!!!!

If you can get a drain/fill piece that screws on to the faucet, you can make a python for little money. I swapped out my sink aerator for a chrome one that stays permanantly attached. As far as hose goes, all the vinyl tubing you'll ever need is at Home Depot. I ended up going with the nylon reinforced hose that resists crushing to allow water to really move. Aside from that, all you need is the gravel vac end that most people have on their gravel vacs as it is.

I may have to give this some more thought then, and enlist my husband (he'll be thrilled  LOL!) I just hate to spend 30-40 bucks on something that is basically a hose and a faucet hook up! But with this new tank of mine I need something soon!
