So i was bored this morning walking around Walmart. I knew they had a fish section but being Walmart I had never actually looked at. Well today I did and low and behold I was impressed. The tanks were cleaned, not overstocked, and look just general pleasant. The fish were all in very good condition. Another thing that shocked me was the selection. They had plecos, angel fish, barbs (2-3 varieties), guouramis (kissing and dwarfs of several colors), glowfish, several different types of tetra, a decent selection of chiclids, the standard goldfish along with several other varieties, and some nice looking platies.
I've never said and prolly never will again but I would not hesitate to purchase a fish from this WALMART.
I just thought some good news about the major chains would be nice for a change.

Yea, I would think it varies store to stoer depending on who is working in that department and their knowledge. Glad to hear there is a decent fish department at a Wal-Mart. Mine sucks.

Good to hear! It so varies from store to store depending on who is caring for them. One one side of me, the WM has generally okay tanks. Somewhat misinformed but generally cared for decently.

The one in another town always has bettas in cups with mold, dead fish in several days. Weird since this one actually has gravel and decor in their tanks, almost like they actually care that the fish aren't totally stressed.

yeah thats just one walmart. dont get your hopes up on all of them. i wouldnt buy any fish from walmart. and if i do than ill put the fish through qt first.

oh and i think those are the standard walmart fish (except for the angels)

Quality and care for fish does vary from store to store and Wal-Mart should be no different than any other store. I just think that the corporate office needs to audit stores to help prevent the poor conditions many of us have seen at other locations. No one would allow any store to sell sick and dying puppies or kittens, fish should be held to similar standards as well.

Come down here to Arkansas and talk to the HQ. I've been at the very first wal-mart before...its about a hour and a half from where I live.
