hi,
Today i bought a fluval 305,have followed manual & dvd, setting it up.but the noise is awful.Main canister is humbing loudly.I have tilted it and got out some air, double checked everything...but it is still doing it.
Does anyone have any ideas what it could be...its driving me mad.very annoying as i dont seem to get anything working first time.

never use a 305 before, but if you can return it try to get Eheim filter they are silent, I am sure you will like it. rena XP2 and XP3 are super quiet too and a lot cheaper than Eheim.

try to keep shaking it until all the air is burped.... also, does your outflow hose go directly back up to the tank (ie, not bending down from the filter toward the floor, and then back up to the tank)? a bent-down hose can sometimes keep air trapped inside the hose and filter

Turn it off and disconnect the hoses. Pull the whole thing out from under the tank. Take it to the nearest sink. Get some aquarium water and fill that sucka to overflowing burping out as much air as possible by tilting around. Dry the outside and hook it back up full . No pumping should be needed after that and it should quiet down as soon as the stray air works it's way out.

The sound you should get is a rattle not a hum. When you have bled properly the pump is silent. You might want to remove the impeller and check if you have it installed correctly. Only switch on when you have bled as far as you can manually or you can damage the impeller. If it is an electrical hum then take it back (is it for your voltage?)

Hmmm... I don't know. Everyone here has good advice. I had a Fluval 404 for years and it ran practically silent. After about 3 years I had to start replacing impellers on a regular basis. Each replaced impeller made noise & rattled after several months. I dealt with it twice. It could have been some other part that was the problem but being that I am no mechanic I opted to replace the entire filter with Eheim canisters. They were about 25% more expensive but so far no regrets and I DON'T HEAR THEM AT ALL! I have to actually feel mine to tell if its running. (aside from seeing the output flow of course)
But not to say the Fluval canister was'nt a good filter. I loved mine.

Thank you everyone for advice, have tried everything, but still no different. Think i will give up on it now,as had enough messing about.just hope i can take back,as i have cut pipes and its been filled up with water.
Was going to get Eheim one but could only get online & that put me off,so i was wondering if an internal fluval, say 4+ would be any good ?

hi
how about you ask the shop to just re-place it,
it could be that you are just unlucky and have got
a faulty one.
i've got the same filter as yours,
and mine is great.
