Using Fungus Clear

:help: I recently had a fish that had some kind of problem with it, unfortunately it died...but when I talked to someone at the LFS they suggested using Fungus Clear by Jungle to help take care of any problems that might have infected the other fish. So I put in 2 tabs yesterday at about 10am. The water turned green (I had taken out the carbon filters).

My question is how long do I leave out the filters and should I do a PWC before I put the filters back in? The package says I can retreat in 4 days, but since the rest of the fish seem to be fine I shouldn't have to treat again, right? Thanks for any advice you can provide!!! :grinyes:

What do you mean "leave out the filters"? If you have activated carbon in your filter, remove it as it will absorb the meds rendering treatment useless. What exactly is the problem that made you treat the fish? I would like to know as there is always the possibility that it may or may not be contagious.

I thought that either I had bumped it during cleaning or that it had whole in the head - not sure really. I explained it to the LFS guy and this is what he suggested.

Yes, I was talking about the carbon filters. I have had the tank for about 10 months now - the levels are all normal. It's a 20 gal tank 3 red wag tail platys (2 now), 1 lyretail molly, 2 danios and 4 hetras (I think that is what they are). I keep the tank pretty clean and haven't had any problems in a while. Except for this...
 
i have used this medication several times with good results. your problem now is that if you don't have other bacterial sources beyond those filter pads, removing them will send the tank into a cycle. unless you have specific biomedia in your filter (ceramic rings, sponges, bio-wheels) removing the filter pads removes your bacterial filtration. it would have been better to slit the filter pads open and dump as much of the carbon out as you could. test your water for ammonia and nitrite.
 
Ditto, Watauga. The carbon should be ditched while leaving the other filter media in your tank. Carbon is not supposed to be run in a tank longer than a month anyway.
 
I do have bio-stars in the tank...I think I will put the carbon back in and do a PWC and see how it goes. Thanks for all of your help!! :)
 
did this dye any of your stuff in your tank filter intakes etc
 
catching my fish is not going to happen way too many plants etc so im going to dissovle all 8 tablets in a bucket of tank water it treats 80 gallons and put it in my 90 thats my only solution
