Ok so I love me my Guppies been through enough births to know just about most things about them. I can even time births down to the day but in my last batch I've came across something really strange. One of the female fry was born with what appears to be her intestines outside her abdomen.

I've never even heard of this. Thinking that she might heal I've left her in with the other fry and kept the water super clean to discourage infection. The fry are now about 2 month ols and she's still alive and still in with the other fry.

Now its about time to let the fry out into the main tank but I'm reluctant to let her out for fear my wonderful Angel tries to have a nibble.

Any advice, anyone experienced this?

I understand she will have a shorter life than the rest but I can't bring myself to get rid of her!

Thankx!

Rightfully and humanely she should be euthanized. She should never be allowed to reproduce due to the chances of passing on her defect.

I recommend that if you wish to keep her, you isolate her to a solitary container with no other fish as she will be a target for them.

Your baby guppy has a birth defect -- I think there is a similar condition in humans, where the intestines are exposed. Also, in humans -- spina bifida -- where the spine is exposed from birth. Unfortunately, it may be just a matter of time before infection sets in and/or injury to the exposed intestines and other fish interested in taking a nip. Not much you can do --- you can either let it be and see what happens or euthanize the fish to prevent suffering.
