My 2L (0.5g) Marina air bubbler breeder box came in today, so I set it up with a $5.98 pot of "golden pothos" from Lowes. My original intent was to set it up on my goldfish's 55g, but this breeder box fits the rim of my 75g no problem. The frame thickness is just shy of 1.5", so it looks like this large size breeder box will fit up to 1.5" tank frames with no problem. This thing moves quite a bit of water. It filled itself in just a few minutes.

I rinsed the plant and roots real well and cut the roots back about 2" before placing it in the breeder box. I'm not sure if this is going to be too much sunlight for the plant and roots, so it's a trial and error thing for me. This southern facing window gets some direct sunlight when the trees are bare.

I had also purchased these plastic trays and suction cups from the dollar store to try out, so I suction cupped one to the rear of the lower 55g and put a clump of golden pothos in there as well. We'll see how it goes..

Love a new project! Been seriously considering a riparium so this could be a good step in that direction for me. Keep us posted!

Good luck, Joel! I'd like the baskets much better if they were a different color; black, clear or white, gray... something else less noticible, lol. But I too am interested...I'm concerned about southern exposure on the top tank, I'm betting the low pothos is happy.

Yeah, for the $1 store baskets (they come in a 4-pack), you could have any color you want, provided it's red, green, yellow or blue. I was searching for a kitchen sink sponge holder w/ suction cups, but wasn't having any luck finding them locally (plenty online). The pack of $1 store suction cups didn't work out well. They were coming loose after some hours, but I do have some algae on the back glass that I could clean up better to potentially keep suction better. I improvised with some old shower curtain clips instead of the suction cups. I bent them open enough to use as hooks to hold the basket to the tank frame. We'll see how it goes! The breeder box is nice because the roots will always stay wet, even during water changes. These don't dump back to the tank like a HOB will during WCs, but like said, it might be too much light. Time will tell.

Well, I'm suction cup challenged in all applications, lol (heater, filter return, etc). The breeder box does look nice but unfiltered southern exposure seems to be asking for trouble...1 of the joys of pothos is it's lower light needs...Good luck & keep us posted please.

I could wrap the breeder box in foil or the likes if need be, but I want to be able to see in there for awhile. As far as gunk build-up, I've got a smaller version of this breeder box on the lower tank with a few cherry shrimp and java fern. Nothing really builds up in there, I assume due to the shrimp and water movement. I have an AC 110 filter just to the left of the breeder box that I wrapped in foil 2-3yrs ago to keep the algae build-up away.

It's only been about a week and I'm already seeing growth and new leaves unrolling. The little bit of pothos I put in the lower goldfish tank is growing up towards the window above. So far so good!
