I'm going to be planting some dwarf hairgrass in my 15 gallon, but a lot of the stuff that I got is rather tall. Can I just trim it down before planting it?

Also, any other suggestions about planting / maintaining this stuff? I had it once in the past but it got covered in diatoms (hoping my army of amanos will take care of it this time lol).

One of the Mods posted a youtube video on planting HC and DHG. The video showed the individual clipping the DHG down so about 1 - 1.5" of grass was above the roots. The trimming was to facilitate new growth of the plant. Then the DHG was planted about 3" apart in a checkered pattern. Perhaps you can find the video on youtube. Search "caring for aquarium plants" or something of that sort.

I've certainly trimmed it in the past with no ill effects. In my experience, it took a long time to get established and start to grow, although I probably didn't provide it with very good conditions.
