So Will any of these grow with roots in water?

I have the first plant. Grows very well, loves humidity/misting. It's nearly 2ft tall now.
No idea if you can put it in water though. I wouldn't try it with my plants. I put too much effort into keeping them alive and growing, w/o the fertilizer. All my plants hate high light, direct sun, part sun, even though they say they need it, lol.

Hope someone else knows.
But with the palm, you should be able to split off a small section and try it out. Prolly the same thing possible with the others.

Most house plants can be rooted in water. My mom just gave me a clipping of an odd little plant she got from her twin sister when she visited her up in Alaska and she had the clippings in a little vase filled with water so they could grow some roots. I took the clipping and put it in the HOB filter of my 5.5g tank to get a better root system going before planting it in soil.

I wouldn't. You can root most of them in water (like the philodendron in the 5th pic, and probably the ivy in the last pic), but eventually they'll die and rot if you keep them in there.

:( sorry dude. They're pretty nice looking plants though!

The only one of this bunch you can keep in water long-term would be the Arrowhead in photo #2. That will last just as well as the pothos.

All the others would gradually become waterlogged. Rooting a plant start and keeping it in water isn't the same.

(And BTW, ivy is not a philodendron.)

kashta, as long as one works thats great! Arrowhead shall have it roots in water then! I grew that sucker from just a 1 leaf semi dead stem I found in a foreclosed house over the winter time. It really took off in the summer, nearly quadrupled in size.

Oh and the egg crate is to keep my 3 12" fish and the slightly smaller guys from eating the roots. I have to figure out how to make a shelf system. Egg crate is nice and cheap, i could just buy more and use pvc glue for it. dunno yet

I am finding some more water friendly plants online to.

umbrella plant, Chinese evergreen, arrowhead plant, wandering Jew, pothos, philodendron, grape ivy,cast-iron plant, peace lily, peperomia, dracaena, and dieffenbachia. I may have a 330gallon but I dont have that much room!

I have arrowhead in my 30g planted tank right now. It's doing great and sprouting more leaves. Though, mine is not just in the water, it's in a hanging basket and rooted in eco complete, but the substrate stays really wet :). I bought it on a whim because it looked like something that might grow in tank, and I figured if it wouldn't work I'd just plant it in a pot.
As someone mentioned in my thread posted below, you can also do caladium which look similar to arrowhead but are much more colorful. I have some that I have not put in yet, I'm trying to figure out how to make more room.

I also have a couple of sprouts of wandering jew and they are growing roots, but have not been in there long. My pothos is growing great.

My thread is here, I have various semi aquatic plants and also looking for more.

I've discovered my 30g isn't giving me enough room though, so I'm thinking about moving it all the something bigger.

Everyone that is doing semiterrestrial planted tanks, keep posting! There are not enough threads to view for those of us that are interested.
