I am resetting up my 55 gallon in the dining room for my parents before i go back to college and i added 6 bleeding heart tetras to the tank a week ago. (fishless cycle) and they are doing fine. Today i added two dwarf fire gouramis and two powder blue gouramis. They have taken to the tank fine, but a couple tetras will NOT stop nipping at their tails. It's kinda pissing me off cause the last tank i had was tiger barbs and angels, so i learned pretty quick not to get fin nipping fish and everything i have read about the tetras says they are "peaceful". anybody got any ideas?

You may want to try adding a few more of the bleeding harts as a schooling fish 6 is min amount. Maybe make it an odd total number like 9 or 11 this may calm them down.

i'll give it a try. I turned the lights off for now, and will prolly leave them off tomorrow, that seemed to calm everyone down a bit. It's just odd though, i never seen a tetra act like this. I hate adding more, theyre so freaking ugly. thanks

My 3 buenos aires tetras are having a hayday with my newly transplanted dwarf gourami, he is starting to defend himself and has found some good hiding spots. There are a bit bigger than him and there is 3, so it might not be a fair comparison to your tetras, but it seems like there balancing out ok so far.

The will nip. Buenos Aires tetra are infamous fin nippers. So are most bigger tetra.

I keep black neons, rummy nose, chocolate gourami and a female betta in a tank and they are all happy together. But bigger tetra will nip... They ARE related to the pirhana.
