Can anyone give any good suggestions as for tankmates for maylandia/metriaclima greshakei? I'm in the process of exchanging some of them. The originaly owner left the tank to someone who sold it to me. Apparently he just left the tank alone and the fish kept rerpoducing. Anyway, i'm exchanging and giving away some of the fish but i would like to keep 1 male and about 3 or 4 females.. just wondering, what would be an ok tankmate for these fish?

Here is one tidbit:

Tank mates: Can be kept with other mid-sized Mbuna with preferably another colour pattern to reduce mutual aggression. Always be careful to prevent crossbreeding with similar species. There are already more than enough *mixed assorted African cichlids* in this world that are impossible to identify.

I also found an article regarding the combined name that you might find interesting

What size is the tank? That would be a good place to start. ;)

Greshakei are kinda in the middle aggression wise for Mbuna, from what I've heard from those who keep them. I'd keep them with Socolofi, Cynotilapia afra, Acei, and Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos or Melanochromis johannii. Like said above, I'd stay away from anything in the Metriaclima genus.

I hope the tank is atleast 4ft....bigger would be better though. :) Greshakei are beautiful fish!

thank you for the advice.. i actually ended up giving most of them away. The previous owner left the fish to the care of his roommate.. who later sold it to me and when i got them, there were at least 13 in the tank.. btw the tank is a 55 gallon tank. 3 of the females even laid eggs under my watch, but i have waaaay too many so i decided to give most of them away. i only kept 1 male and 4 females and that's it for me. maybe i'll leave the tank as it is.. since they seem to be so prolific. or should i add?
