Im looking to get some more friends for my 6" Dempsey, 5" Peacock cichlid, and 4" King Tiger Pleco (L66). I have them in a moderately planted 75 gal with a few pieces of driftwood. I was thinking I want some bright colors like yellow labs perhaps but i dont know how they'd fair with my PC. He can get kinda nasty as he did kill my 4" JD within a day of introducing him to the tank. sadly i wasnt home during the night that i put him in and couldnt stop the massacre. any suggestions? oh, he did however get along with my 7" leporinus fac. until my lep decided to commit suicide and jump out of the tank thru a 2x4 inch opening :(

I say you don't get anything else. Once your fishes get full grown your 75g will be full.
:iagree: The plants will also be demolished by those cichlids soon.

bah, i was hoping for just 1 more fish. ive had my JD for almost 7 years now... i think hes pretty much full grown. and ive had the peacock for almost 2 years probably and he doesnt seem to be growing anymore either. so far they havent really bothered the plants. everything stays where i put it and i rarely have to scoop out broken leaves and the like.

the JD is the problem.

if you didn't have him, you could get a whole bunch more Peacocks in there, like 20.

My JD is my baby! he's not going anywhere!!!!!!!!! haha, nah he's def very mild mannered and has a great personality. he trys to play with my hand it seems when i clean my tank, haha

its a shame that the jd's are so agressive, id kil lto have the fish if it was peaceful. Question: Newbie i know, but whats the problem with plants and most cichlids? DO they eat them or chew them or what?

It depends which cichlids you're talking about. Most chew them, most dig to an extent that they uproot plants, most simply pull out the plants in an attempt to make a nesting site or territory. The only cichlids that are fine with planted tanks are keyholes, angels, discus, apistogrammas, chromides blue rams and Bolivian rams. There are a few others I am sure. If the species you have tends to demolish plants, you may have to stick with plants that do not need substrate. Hornworts, anubias and Java ferns are considerably tough.

ive had live plants in my JD's tank since i've had him (almost 7 years as i stated earlier) and never have i had a problem with him bashing them up in any way. also no problem with the oscar i had for about 4 years until he commited suicide by sky dive
