Tank Brands? And where to buy

I need a 75 gallon tank. I’ve had the stand built but I’m struggling to find a tank. I’ve called my local fish stores, they don’t have any in stock and gave me no information. I then looked at petsmart and petco reviews and there are lots of busted silicone and leaking reports. I’ve searched YouTube and google about best brands and where to find. And much to my surprise there’s very little information out there. I didn’t think it would be this hard to find a 75 gallon. Any help would be appreciated.

There may be a delay in the supply chain due to non-essential businesses being down since March. Where are you located?

Yeah that might be part of the problem since I live in metro Detroit during the pandemic. But I’m still confused as to where people buy trusted aquariums these days.

I wouldn't worry too much over the age of tank thing. Last time we moved (9+ years ago) We had a unused 110g (x 10 years) & a well used 75g (x 15? years). Both were fine holding water & both were petsmart/co tanks...in both extreme heat & cold before they were set up. Your experience maybe different but I was happy with our outcome & they still hold water yet...Any tank can leak, but most don't...& most are made locally...my father in law worked at a tank (& pet supply) distributor for a few years & they supplied several companies...

I have several tanks in the 35 to 52 year old range still running but I think the silicone was a lot better back then...

I don't know if the silicone was better back then, I think it's more a matter of attention to details...& maybe pay scale back in "the day".

Resealing a tank isn't all that hard if you have to do it...it's all in the prep...but it is a PITA...

For standard sized store bought tanks. I'd stick with anything made by central garden and pet (Aqueon and others) vs anything made by united pet group (Marineland and others).

I know with my 29 and 55g tanks, the glass and frames are thicker on my Aqueon tank.

The only tanks ive had leaks on were Marineland.

I wouldn't be too worried about petco/petsmart tanks.. so long as the silicone is inspected first, you don't use their stands, make sure it is flat and level and leak test before you first use it

My personal preference is for rimless tanks . But as you gave the stand built already, it likely assumed a tank with a rim.. and rimless are generally far more expensive not to mention not being the same dimensions as a 'standard' tank.

Another resource might be to get in touch with a local club, I think motor city aquarium society is around detroit, and likely gas members who can help you out with specific places to go, or maybe have a member selling a used tank. I know there are plenty of used 75g tanks by me for sale for example.

If you want to shop local, maybe try a store that specializes in cichlids or larger fish, they are more likely to be able to help you out . Or if you didn't already, talk to the owner of the store you tried.. it can be that the staff just don't want to make the effort to help you out or don't have the ability to order themselves)

As an actual standard aquarium branfmd, I would check out Seapora
