Sword-plants specially amazon sword-plants are my favorite. the question is does the grow in number automatically? since now i have let them grow their trunk (or the bundle of stems) a bit bigger. then i used to cut them in two halves to have two trees and thus i grew their numbers. is there any other possible ways (natural ways are preferred) to multiply their numbers??????

mother plants produce runners with plantlets.

It funny though , they only do it once and a while . I have had them do it several times but am always supprised when it does happen. Last time I was able to stock our 72 bowfront at work with the plants :) Now that's been a long time ago .

swords are funny like this...i had one to begin ith that let out 5 runners with new plants within days of getting it.., it then had no more at all since...but i split the 'bulb' to get a another plant and now they are all huge and now i need to get rid of at least one of them....

Yes I have several different types of sword and sometimes they put out runners and sometimes they don't...I have a marble queen with 2 little runner babies growing on it now the first for this sword in my tank.

My large green amazon used to put out runners quite frequently but hasn't for a while now maybe they need a "resting" period between reproducing. I have some that have never produced runners at all like my Rubin sword..maybe it doesn't reproduce that way? So far I haven't been courageous enough to divide it though....

mine grows runner that go upwards, do they normally gorw down into the soil? mine aRE like pointing up and all over the place

i think that they will naturally fall off after a while. but what i have done in the past is carefully separate it from the 'runner' and then plant it once its root structure is significant. I then trim the runner off.

also, although risky, i hear that you can actually split the rhizome vertically creating two separate plants. doing this you can also create 2 dead plants :duh:

i've always heard that if you split an amazon sword your just going to kill it. but hey if it works do it. hey coach you can send that amazon on down here to me i need another big one

haha, wouldn't you know it , the sword that I pulled all the leaves off when I went with the full carpet of chainsword has grown back and now has a spike runner coming out :) This is the same plant that did it last time.
