Just joined this forum. Great site with great information!!! I purchased a 25 gallon high aquarium about 3 months ago. I have a couple platys, a male guppy, five black phantom tetras, and two red phantom tetras. I was thinking of adding two cory cats, one dwarf gourami (beautiful fish), and a school of neon tetras (about 7 or so). Possibly a shrimp. I believe my tank will be stocked to the maximum capacity after this and if I keep up on regular water changes things should be okay. What do you think?

Water test results: Ammonia 0
NitrIte 0
NitrAte less than 5.0
pH between 7.5 and 7.8.

Thanks in advance for any response.

I'm by no means an expert, but it sounds like a bit much to me. A 25 high will hold less than a 25 long because there is less back and forth room for the fish to swim. If you add the fish you are considering that would be a lot of tetras, which all stay in the middle to bottom of the tank. You may want to consider some top swimmer like hatchets (a group of 3?) instead of the neons to balance things out.

You'd be overstocked, especially if the tank's not planted. I'd consider leaving the neons off the list (they'll be the most sensitive to any decline in water quality) and get either two or three cories or shrimp, not both, to go with the dwarf gourami. Tall tanks have less surface area for oxygen exchange, so you have to be a bit careful about stocking levels.

you definatly dont want to
overstock the tank
your probably right
around your limit the corys
dont take up much room and stay
out of the way most of the
time there nice fish to have

Thank you, everyone, for your advice.

Milky, I appreciate your response, but why use that angry, red "smilie" at the end of your message. I'm looking for some friendly advice, not some sort of response with the suggestion of a condescending attitude or anger at the possibility of my overstocking an aquarium.
