I have 7 piranhas currently in a 55 gallon (obviously way too small because they have grown so fast) and a fire eel (10-12 inches long). They've never tried attacking him and he does come out occassionally. I would like to see him alot more when feeding so I'm considering getting rid of the piranhas and have considered replacing them with a small sting ray. I was also told a clown knife would match well too. So it'd be a stingray, clown knife and fire eel. I guess my question is would the stingray thrive in my tank (been told 125 is the minimum) with the eel and clown knife. If not what would you recommend? I do have multiple filters and clean every other week so that is not a problem. Also would pool filter sand be okay for these fish as well?

Thanks for looking!!

Dont clown knives kill everything when they get bigger?
Plus, a stingray needs alot of space to swim.... like leghtwise and width wise... I wouldnt go with anything smaller than like 300 gallons... a short tank with a long huge bottom.

a 55g is way to small to keep any species of stingray! you at least need a 125g to keep the smallest species of ray(reticulated) and even a 125g is a little small for living out the rest of its life. you need a tank with a footprint of at least 6ft long and at least 24 inches wide.

Your tank is WAY to small for a clown knife and imo it's to small for a ray as well.
I would also suggest that you up your water changes to weekly.

I have a 125 gallon tank I just bought just no they wouldn't be put into a 55, upgrading. Also from what I've read you can get certain sting ray breeds that only get 10-12 inches wide and they said it would perfectly fit in a 125 gallon. Obviously in 2-3 years I would upgrade to maybe a wide 125 or even bigger if needed. This is for just a small ray I would buy 5-6 inches currently. Also on the fire eel, he doesn't stay at the bottom. I have pvc piping under all the sand so they would really never see each other until I stink that nice squiggly worm in, obviously he's comes out to eat but then hides immediatly afterwards. So I believe a stingray and eel should be no problem but I do see that clown knifes get up to 3+ feet so maybe it is too big. What else would you guys recommend to mix with stingray and fire eel?

krytan- I do water changes every 2 weeks like suggested, why are you saying I should do more?

Also checked online and it says everywhere 125 gallon is fine because the ray im looking at only gets 10-12 inches wide...obviously I would upgrade when he gets full size in 2-3 years...

anyone have pics of there tank they can post/send to me for recommendations on setting it up? i prefer live plants so if you have a planting tank send to me please!!!
