i got a 100 watt submersible heater.....is that good enough...if so where should i put it.....middle or on one of the sides.....next is the filter......a whisper for 10-30 gallon tanks at walmart....15 bucks!
The 100-watt should be more than enough; I had mine on the opposite end of the tank from the filter (mine was submersible, so I had it stuck diagonally on the glass so the tip was about an inch or two above the substrate).
I'll be interested in knowing what you think of that Whisper. (I finally replaced mine with an AquaClear 200, which is now running on my 38-gal tank).
Lights? Substrate? (Natural-colored gravel, about 1/8" to 1/4" size, will let you add plants nicely if you want to.)
What fishies are you going to put in there?
I LOVE setting up new tanks. The cross I bear that the house I am currently in does not appear to be big enough to have room for more than my 38-gal. I've got an empty 20-gal long and a 10-gal just panting to be set up. Sigh.
The heater is fine. Personally, I would have went with a penguin 170 filter because I am not really familiar with wisper filters. Anyway, what kind of substrate are you getting? If you haven't gotten anything yet, I would suggest Onyx Sand by Seachem, its very nice.
I'd put the heater on the oppisite side of the filter, this way more warm water is circleing around the tank.Be ready to want another filter,I've had a few whisper's from wal-mart, and have added a UGF down the road. Also a bubble wall/stone for surface agitation, ....I'm a little jealous, this is the best part, setting up!
As the subject line is 'startd getting stuff for the bare 20 long.....'
I assume Artic Fishery is implying that there will be no substrate. We may just have to wait for Artic to tell us though.
yes i do plan on getting substrate but i dont know what kind...i really want sand but a lot of people tell me its just a big hassle......i know i want 4 panda cories and to put my monster of a apple snail in there so far but dont really know what else.
go with sand but no UGF, also put the heater next to the flter intake so that eated water gets sucked into the filter then returned to the tank and corculated much faster than normal.
