About three weeks ago I got some "Mollies" from the LFS to cycle my 44 gal tank. I tried to keep the tank balanced with the "Molly" colors by transferring all the non matching colors into my 20 gal(White mollies, Black mollies, and orange mollies, each a pair of M and F in the 44 gallon), but when I went to PetsMart to get a female orange Molly, the guy that gave me the fish said that if the fish is really orange (which it is, with a sort of blue tail), it is more than likely a Platy. Did the LFS mis-label the fish I got sold? Was the really orange fish a stray Platy in a tank full of Mollies? Is there some way to tell the difference between Mollies and Platies? Thanks in advance...

Send a pic. There are red, orange, gold, yellow mollies. Platies have a slightly different shape, they are rounder than the longer mollies.

Heres a pic (he either has pop-eye, or got injured from the 20 g which is the reason I moved him to my 44 gal with better water quality)

Doesn't even look like a platty. Its a peaches and cream molly. The color variation goes by other names as well. Wow pet store employees are dumb.

mollie mouth are wider and they got longer body and usally yellow and black some thing like that...

Mollies come in more colors than yellow and black. They come in all black, all gold, all yellow, all white, all grey and any combination in between. I know fro a fact it is a molly. I have the same kind.
