I have a pair of these loaches but they arent interested in snails.
Do they become more into snails as they grow? because i found three tiny snails yesterday and more before.

They eat alage off of the plants and other stuff but not sails.

Anyone know anything about these? they are still under two inches so im hoping its just their size that is whats going on.

thanks

oh heck my two skunk botias go crazy for snails. I just dropped a couple in to see if they would react and they went straight for them. I actually felt sorry for the poor snails. These are still young loaches at only an inch long.

My guess is maybe they haven't been in there long enough? Skunks are pretty small, and it'll take the two of them quite a while to cover a whole 55g. Also, the snails you saw were probably newly hatched. I don't know if Loaches eat snail eggs or not, but it can take a while to go through all the eggs. 3 snails doesn't sound like much of a problem though. As long as you have the loaches in there you'll never have 100.

TRy not feeding the tank for a couple of days. It is probably a lack of understanding that the snails are food. They also probably aren't eating algae but just grazing through the plants looking for food. My flying fox does the same thing. That is probably why the foxes are sometimes sold as algae eaters. But they are simply grazing for little bugs and what not.
