I just bought 3 silver tipped sharks, does anyone know anything about them? I could not find anything on them on this page or any others. If anyone could help me out that would be great thanks.

Silver-tips are brackish water fish and when they are mature, really need to be in a saltwater aquarium. They grow to good size, about a foot or more. As they get older, they will loose the pretty colouring they have now and will eventually be a plain gray colour.
Food wise, they will eat whatever they can fit in their mouth as well as shrimp pellets, frozen and live foods.
What size is your tank? These guys need a large tank. IMHO I wouldn't keep one is less than a 90gal.
They can be territorial with their own species, but make good community tank mates with fish of the same size and temperment. Avoid keeping in a tank with agressive fish like cichlids.
Try looking up Arius Jordani, Arius Seemani. Another name they go by, is Columbian Shark.
Hope this info helps. If you have questions let us know! :)

I've also heard of bala sharks being called silver tip sharks. If thats the case, the info above pretty much applys to them too. Its always a good idea to research the fish before you buy them so that you know what you're getting into :o

Whoa, Holly9937, you need to be a little more careful when posting advice, and a little more detailed.

First of all, the care for a Bala is quite different from the silvertip shark aside from what they'll eat, and the size aquarium they need.

Balas are not aggressive with their own kind, in fact they are a schooling fish and do best in a group. Secondly, Balas are not brackish, and will never need saltwater conditions, (it would kill them). Plus, you can actually keep them with fish that are much smaller than they are, with no problems.

You did give 51_50bronco some great advice though,:

yeah, sorry about that :sad !! I did not re-read the post when I was typing and was more referring to the food and tank size, I can see now that it looked like I was saying everything applied... I haven't been working much, and I think I'm spending way too much time on here!

Thanks for all of the good advice. Right now they are in a 46 gal bow front but in a few weeks I will be buying a 125 gal with my tax return. They seem to be ok with my other fish especially my iridesent sharks and my rainbow sharks. I must have very picky sharks because they eat the flakes and small pellets. At times the silver tips will just be lifeless but other times they will zip back and fourth with the iridesents. Once again thanks for all of the advice.
:bowing:
