Could someone recommend a Short, Grass-Like Plant? I'm looking for the plant to fill a foreground to mid-ground patch and eventually look like a grass field. My tank is 70g Show with 2wpg and no CO2.
"marsilea quadrifolia"
This unusual low light plant tolerates lower light levels and seems to do well even without the addition of a Co2 system to your tank. Marsilea quadrifolia will form a carpet if left to itself. Great for growing in zones with lower light than glossostigma would tolerate.
Please keep in mind, the plant will be shorter the more light it gets. We have grown it a low as 1.5 watts / gallon in an 18" deep tank and still maintained its height at 1.5 - 2" tall. It gets taller at lower light levels and shorter at higher light levels.
"Marsilea minuta"
Marsilea minuta is much shorter (about one cm)...identical in size to glossostigma. Like quadrifolia it is dark green and tolerates much lower light levels than does glossostigma. We also now grow it emergent and in this form it is a 2-3in tall plant. Once planted in your aquarium, allow it to grow for a week and it will revert to the tiny 1cm high submersed growth.
