Do brine shrimp eggs have a shelf life? Just asking because I acquired a bottle of eggs marked 1966. Is it worth going to the store to get the salt to hatch them or have they gone bad by now?

You don't need any special salt from the aquarium just use table salt. And it does not hurt to try if the would still work, I am sure unless they never got wet they last forever.

I agree with Darryl - it's worth a try. You only need aquarium salt if you are planning on raising them.

I have read that marine salt mix produces a better hatch rate, but unless you have a SW tank it's hardly worth the cost. I'd try some w/table salt just to see if any are still viable; those eggs are almost as old as I am.

I don't know the answer to your question, but what is that dog on your avatar? Is it painted?

That's is my parents yellow lab that I painted with hair dye because....well just cause.

OK It says to use non iodized salt but I guess it never hurts to try. Even if I get one to hatch I will be happy. thanks everyone I will let you know how they come out.

:o 1966? I would have saved them, probably some weirdo out there who collects old "toys" like that. Anyway I hatch my shrimp eggs with regular aquarium salt no problems. I assume sea salt would be ok too.

So... have they hatched? Inquiring minds want to know!
