What's the Severum's breeding behavior? I have 2 Green Severum. I know for sure that I have a 4.5" male GS. I'm not exactly sure of the other 4" GS. Both have pointy fins. I have talked to some people...they said that Severums are somewhat hard to differentiate when it comes to gender unless it is going by venting.

Anyway, these 2 GSs have been chasing each other. And the "Unknow sex" severum has changed to darker color. Both of them will fan their tails at each other. Their dorsal fins are always up. Sometimes I notice that they shake from head to tail. The male GS will pick up a rock and spit it back out in front of the other GS. And I noticed that the male GS is cleaning the flat sufface. They also always haning out together...chasing other fish off.

I'm trying to understand what they are doing. Are these breeding behavior? Or are they being just being territorial?

Thanks in advance.

mmmm
maybe they are getting ready to spawn..
i sexed my severums by their wormy marks on their face:)
mqale have marks while females have smoother looking face:)
the dorsal fin was not reliable for my golden and turq severum.
try to put a piece of slate since i noticed that they liek to lay eggs on slate:)
if they chase other fish out of their territory... they may be a pair:) also noticed that my severums when the female will lay egg it becomes dark and more colorful:)
gudluck:)

Well, I found eggs on the side of the rock. They are fanning the eggs, chasing fish away, and got into mouth wrestling with my Blood Parrots. Now I just have to wait when the eggs will hatch.

Shoot...sexing them are difficult. What you told me isn't accurate with my pair :D The female has marks all over her face and body. And she turned very black when she started to lay eggs. And some told me to sex them by looking at their anal fin. Female has dots on the anal fin. Heck! That wasn't right with mine. The male got dots on the anal fin. That's confusing :D

Oh well, now I know which is male and female after they have laid eggs.

I will post some pictures soon...showing them being so protective...and how they got into the fight.

Here are some pictures of my severums and their eggs.

This is mommy checking me out. In this picture, you can see that there are already some unfertilize eggs.
