Hi, just wondering what the people who have a royal or bicolour dottyback, have in with this grumpy little fish? i think he's awsome but compatability is difficult, he doesn't harrass the clowns i have but he was put in after them, but just wondering what others experience is. I would love to put coral gobies or a bicolour blenny but he might be too mean for them. It's a 170ltr/45g? tank. any suggestions? Thanks!

i have a royal dottyback in my 55 gal.the other fish i have in there are 2 clowns,5 green cromis,3 damnsels, a flame tail blenny ,lawnmower blenny, coral beauty angel, foxface rabbit fish, 6 line wrasse, yellow watchman gobie, engieneer gobie, and a firefish..and they all do pretty good together..the only fish that my dottyback seems to have trouble with is the coral beauty..they chase each other all the time..and they have been doing this for almost a year..but they don't hurt each other...try putting you dottyback in QT tank for a while and star adding fish to your regular tank..then after a while put the DB back in there and you should be fine..

Gobies and blennies might get picked on. Despite their size, dottybacks are mean SOBs! But they are beautiful.
Might want to think about smaller wrasses (6-line), or even some damsels (which clowns are btw). People think they're throw away fish, but they are some of the most aggressive fish in the industry. I've always thought about doing just a damsel tank. They come in a variety of colors.
Whatever you get, it's going to have to be pretty tough to hang with the dottyback. And with a 45g tank, it won't take too many fish to fill it.
I think the above poster has everything getting along because they are so crammed they don't know what to do. I have a 100g marine tank with only six fish.
