I am looking for a new pump, and I did a search on here and saw that rena is the most quiet one! So I looked at bigalsonline.com and looking for this air pump, I plan on going in a 22" deep aquarium with a long bubble curtain with this, I likey de bubbles! I notice a few differnet nodel numbers, I am assuming that the rena #50 doens't blow as much as a 400, what should I get for my idea, do I need a big hefty one or would a 50 work?

Sorry I don't know which one you should get. I just wated to tell you I know from experience that the rena ones are the quietist. Also if you plan on putting it below your tank get a check valve. I ruined one of my rena pumps without one :(

I don't know which one you should get either. I have a 400 in a 90gal. It is very quiet considering it's size. If you go to a pet store, take a 400 out of the box for a laugh! It's HUGE! I also have a 200 that is extremely quiet.

Sorry I couldn't help more. Did anybody mention to you how quiet they are? ;)

what are the demensions of the 400, like what are we talking about when it comes to 400, 300,200, it pumps more air, it can pump in deeper water? or what is the scoop?

It pumps more air and it can pump in deeper water. I'd say it's 7" long 5" wide and 4" tall. If space is a concern, look at one at a pet store before buying. If you can afford it, just get the 400. It'll be a bit louder than a smaller one (we're still talking quiet) and if you dont need all the output put a regulator valve on there. The 400 has 2 outputs.

According to the box it'll power 4 1" airstones at 96" deep. At a 24" depth it'll power 16 1" airstones. 18" deep it'll do 20 1" stones.

so really the 400 is the only one I will need then huh, that thing sounds impressive though!

Well if you want a quiet and powerful pump, that's the one. I haven't had an aquarium for 10 years so I'm sure there are others out there that'll have a lot of output, they won't be as quiet. I just read the reviews on the Renas and that was that. $40 is a steal at Big Als, I paid 70! ouch.

Do a yahoo search and read some reviews. Like I said, it is very quiet but don't expect silence, after all it is a high output pump.

Here is a review link. www.cichlid-forum.com/reviews

Only one of my tanks uses an air pump, and it's a Rena. Very reliable and quiet. As a rule of thumb though, in my practice anyway, I always opt for one piece of equipment slightly higher than I need. Pumps, filters, heaters (sometimes), ect.

just ordered a rena 400! I hope I don't get a faulty one, sounds like there are some of those out there!
