I just bought a (captive purity refractometer) read the instructions on how to calibrate it and ran salinity test on my 55 gal tank and to my surprise the salinity of the water was much higher then my hydrometer has been reading, which one should I trust?

test results:

Hydrometer was 1.023

Refractometer was 1.030

I also ran this test on the water in my 35 gal tub which I use to mix my saltwater with the same results.
:help:

Thats good to know I will start to reduce the salinity in my tank, I will take slow as not to stress the fish out or upset the balance of the tank. Never used a refractometer before I like how precise the reading was.

Thanks

Yep slowly and surely is the way, don't want to give your tankmates a shock. Are any of your fish acting sluggish? I only ask because my friend asked for my help when her clown (only fish) was sluggish, I tested her salinity and it was 1.040!!! after the first water change the clown perked up big time (and is still going strong)

Thats good you asked I have two clowns and they have acted strange and seem to be sludgiest at times and also I have a yellow tang that has HLLE that may be the cause I read that poor water conditions can cause this. You replied to my other thread titled (My New Fish) you can see some of my fish and the yellow tang on there.

Thanks

Yep. Reckon reducing salinity is going to help IMO. What ar your other parameters reading- Ph, NitrAte, NitIte, Phosphate etc just out of interest?

Well I calabrated it as the direction said so I guess I'll throw away my hydrometer by the way I have the same one Deep Six and my LFS suggest that was the best LOL.
