does anybody know the origin of this fish? what is it a cross of?
or is it just a color mutation somebody is going to inbreed until the cash register stops ringin?

i have seen a few pictures, and i must admit they really caught my eye. the one thing that worrys me is: most of the pics ive seen are from southeast asian / malaysian flowerhorn breeders. IMO, opportunists capitalizing on a trend thats not necessarily good for the fish.

"Le tout nouveau, tout beau, Red Texas Cichlid issu des amours entre Amphilophus citrinellus et Herichthys carpinte" from http://perso.club-internet.fr/burnel/horreur_amc.htm

This is the Museum of Horrors, which refers to the hybrids out there.

It looks like this is a Midas/Green Texas mix, and that's what the site says, too.

Wow, that's too bad.

That's a nice looking fish :(

I know...FH/LH are nice-looking fish, too, but if you don't like hybrids, they're not worth it, I guess.

Texas

I have kept A breeding Pair Of a Texas Cichlid and l learned one thing that they can care for there young and can not. I bought the pair from a store and put them in a Fifteen gallon hexagonal (worst Decision I ever Made) and they would just lounge around all day would not show the young any thing to do infact the fry would hide all day. I know thatr the Texas Cichlid comes from Rivers and Steams In Texas And Mexico. My guess the hybrid is a texas chichlid and a red Devil that is my guess. Also you may know this fish by other names or nicknames here is two Carpintis and Water Monster. So if You want to breed these fish I wish you the best of Luck and if You want it just for show Get a nice one if you Like Hybrids.

I don't see how this has anything to do with the Red Texas...plus, they do a more credible job of caring for young in larger tanks, or in tanks in which there are some predators available.

It has already been established on fairly credible sites that the mix is of Green Texas and Midas.

The Red Texas does not have these nicknames.

Carpinte is not a nickname...it is the specific nickname for the Green Texas, which is different from the Cyanoguttatum, which is the Texas.

The regular Texas is also known as the Pearl Cichlid.

The Water Monster applies to many C/A Cichlids

HTH,

Matthew

sorry about that, and thank you to whomever for Coreecting me

I was misinformed then about my fish soooo many times then. (pet store, online, other breeders) and the way i related the two since its a hybrid of the Texas Child and the Midas i thought the two were closey related.

Sorry

And thanx to whom correcting

It's all right...we all do that, but it is our job to correct if we see something that is incorrect.

Thanks for not overreacting...you are one of the few newer members who has not, and that translates into you having great value to all of us here.

Well then Childawg I hope you don't mind because I believe in general, and on this site even, the pearl cichlid is Geophagus Braseliensis, an eartheater from South America.

Nicely taken, Scott. :)

I have a Dick Stratton book from TFH that calls the Texas the Pearl Cichlid, the mojarra, and the Rio Grande Perch. I think we're both right on this one, but I agree with the fact that this board uses Pearl Cichlid for the Geophagus brasiliensis.
