Took a look at the corallites, etc. and I believe I did manage to get a G. stutchburyi--aka red flowerpot coral. It was free and in impeccable health. A few months ago, when I first saw it, it had a few bare spots. Those have since been completely covered in encrusting tissue. Not bad at all. So I now have it in the moderate flow area of the tank (if you want to call it moderate, lol) and it is doing very well, with polyps as fully extended as in the previous tank the very next day. Hopefully, it will do as well as the last specimen I had that had grown to the rock it was sitting on. Only time will tell--if it does not, however, I do have a person with a more nutrient-rich tank that wants it. Anyway, enough verbal garbage from me and on with the pics (note: it is a bit late, so only 1/2 the lights are on--mainly blue bulbs and one daylight):

So in laymans terms, I am guessing this is a rare flowerpot? Looks awesome and it is amazing it has been able to heal itself. Personally, I have never read or known anyone that has been successful keeping any flowerpot alive more than a year. I hope I am witnessing the first success story! :)

Not as rare as they used to be. I knew where this one came from originally (LFS-wise) and all specimens are doing incredibly well. Success stories with the red varieties are by far the most common--I had my first for nearly 2 years before a small scale disaster took it and a few other things. That's the reason I picked this one. No way would I try the seemingly run-of-the-mill green/brown Gonipora, since they tend to be the most demanding for whatever reason.

I have tried the goni's before. Green never lasts and the red variety seems to do the best. Good find.
I do like the gonipora's but they take up quite a bit of room, and dont seem to keen on fragging.

I am currently taking on Acro's again since I finally was able to destroy my redbug infestation.

I got several Acropora myself. I haven't had any in a while, as well, but always had great luck with them. The frags are currently browned out, but should perk up in time.
