What eats/kills it?

If you mean tufted species of Audouinella, i.e. BBA.

Fish: Siamese Algae Eater
FW critters that won’t last long/don’t want in a tank: amphipods and insect larvae (caddisfly larvae in particular).

A weak bleach solution of 1 part bleach to 20 parts water will remove it from plastic plants, rocks, and decorations that you can remove from a tank.

let me clarify there, NO BLEACH in the tank, make sure to rinse the decorations good afterwards too.

exactly what do you mean by red algae? where is it at? texture? What kind of tank, size, near a window, lighting, inhabitants?

Red is not common in a freshwater tank, sometimes in brackish, common and normal in saltwater.. If it is a brown dusting on walls and decorations, bristlenose pleco's are the #1 best in my opinion. If you have a burgandy to bluegreen slimy algae, it is actually a cyanobacteria and not edible by anyting I'm aware of. Erethomyacin works great for this and not harmful to anything I've found. Even my sensitive green spotted puffer did good with the EM. Kyle
