I'll just get a rat or a hamster instead of a dog. I need to pick one but there are some good points and not-so-good-points about them.

Rats' Good Points:
  • They're intelligent
  • They're Cute
  • They're Cheap to buy and to feed
Rats' Not-So-Good Points:
  • They can bite HARD if hurt of frightened
  • They don't live for too long (2-3 yrs.) :(
  • They need XL cages (They're REALLY expensive!)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Hamsters' Good Points:

  • They're Cute
  • They're cheap
  • They don't need large cages
Hamsters' Not-So-Good Points:
  • They easily get grumpy
  • They can bite HARD if hurt or frightened
  • They slither out of your hands
So? What do you guys think? (Rats are $5-6 and Hamsters are $7-15)

hampsters also are prone to diabetes, we lost one to this, east till fat and then drinks like 8 oz a day then gets skinny and dies,..

we had the siberian ones, very cute but not a real hands on pet,..get really mean, our that is left will jump at you when we are trying to refill water,

stick with larger ones,..

bunnies are good if you get a baby one and handle it all the time,.. i've raised and showed most small breed ones,.. had over a 100 brood does at one time,...

i love my mice, if you breed them and are around the babies, they become very friendly. i also love how inventive they are. but rats become even friendlier, like little dogs they can learn tricks and come when you call them. i personally hate hamsters, never had a good experiance with one :D

I hate rats because of their tails, but I have heard they are much more intelligent and interactive than a hamster. Hamsters are cute, but you usually really can't handle them much, and I've never heard of one growing to recognize and respond to its owner the way a rat will. I have no idea about mice. Bunnies or guinea pigs can also be pretty good with people, if you make sure to handle them a lot from the time they are a baby. However bunnies and guinea pigs will also need a large cage like a rat, while a smaller and cheaper setup would probably work for hamsters or mice.

I have known people that have owned rats and they had to have their teeth trimmed and they always seem to get disgustingly huge disforming tumors. Hamsters are much cuter and require less health care IMO.

my friend had a pair of rats and i used to play with them all the time, and they actually had personalities of their own, they really remembered me too. they were like little people! so cute too. i have had hamsters before and i will probably never get one again...rats are much more active and lovable ime
