I have a 75g community tank, and I'd like to add more of a showpiece fish to offset the general grayness of most of my fish. I'm thinking of either one German blue ram OR one angelfish. If I went with an angel, I would get it as a small quarter-size or less juvie. The rams that are available to me are about 1 inch to 1.5 inches at the lfs. I don't want to go online as shipping is generally more than the fish, and the fish available at the lfs are very nice looking.
Anyway, I currently have are as follows:
19 Diamond tetras
6 kribs (4 are going to the lfs this weekend, leaving a mated pair)
2 honey gouramis (would like a couple more females, but...)
2 L387 plecos (max out at 4.7")
2 baby bristlenoses (disappeared, unknown if alive, came in unwanted with guppies)
20+ guppy/Endler mixes (okay if other eat them/babies, encouraged for fry actually)
A handful of common ramshorn snails
Tons of MTS
I'm also getting 15 amano shrimp soon (end of week or next week). I might also get a bamboo shrimp in the next few months.
Anyway, my main questions were 1. Which would be more likely to eat guppy/endler fry? and 2. Which would be less likely to overload the tank? and 3. Which would be more likely to be compatible with all inhabitants.
I'd actually like whichever I get to eat the guppy/endler fry as I don't want to bother with them. Mistake to get them in the first place, I know. I was originally planning to get an angelfish, though, so I was hoping to have some snacks and hunting opportunities for it.
It's a planted tank with bacopa monnieri, pennywort, dwarf sag, Java moss, flame moss, Windelov fern, duckweed, najas grass, anubias, and soon to add salvinia minima.
I have several pieces of driftwood and mopani wood, most with moss or anubias or both tied to them. I also have several caves. There are also 2 fake plant floating baby hideouts.
Levels: pH is 7 or just under. Nitrites and ammonia are 0. Nitrates haven't been checked in a while as my test kit didn't come with it, and I only have a saltwater nitrate test. But, my tap water already has 20 nitrates. It could be over or under, but I'm guessing around that or under because of the plants. Temp 78.
Filtration is Marineland 360 canister with an additional Tetra Whisper power filter HOB rated for up to 60 tanks with only biofoam in it (mainly for ease of setting up the hospital/QT tank). Water flow is good, and I even had to make a surface divider (only goes down first 2" of tank water) to calm the surface agitation for my floaters.
