I recently got a Bolivian Ram via Live Aquaria. FWIK, it was wild, how do I go about teaching it that fish flakes are food? It's not eating the flakes or the sinking pellets. Should I get brine shrimp or something, or will it eventually get hungry enough to eat the flakes? All the other fish are eating the flakes (even the bulldog pleco). Help if you can.

You know I would get some frozen Mysis Shrimp or Blood Worms and try that. It probably does not recognize flakes and pellets as food yet. I know my RAMS love shrimp and blood worms.

Okay, thanks. I'll try that tonight when I get home :)

It can take a little while for fish to eat in a new setting. The best thing to try is something they'll like, for example stormywendyann^ said bloodworms, and then slowly introduce other foods along with it, and they'll get used to that to. That's what's worked for me.

I agree with all above. I would definately feed frozen bloodworms or the mysis shrim, beef heart and add some flake or pellets everytime. They'll get the idea, good luck:)

Well (and I should have posted this last night) the poor creature died :( Why is it that when they die all their colors come out? Makes it so much sadder to see what you've lost. I didn't even get a chance to pick up the food :( Came home and he/she was dead... I think I'll stick to pet stores where I can see them trying to eat the guys hand when he feeds them from now on, instead of over the internet.

Hi
Sorry to hear that.!! I lost a male blue ram from a pair I bought in Jan. They did very well until a couple of weeks ago
Only symtom was he went off the food Female is still doing well have no idea what happened .
Have never bought over the internet except for plants I like to see what I'm getting
About all you can do is try again??? gary

I has this happen to my two rams, the first one within a week of buying it and the second around a month after..... Looked well with no obvious signs of illness, then stopped eating and died within 48 hours!

Well, it sucks, but I'm going to try again with German Blue Rams (highfin) that a LFS has. They seem robust enough to survive just about anything, but I have to wait till my 20 is empty of fish (about 2 months) before I can buy one, as they may have diseases that the current QTers don't have.
