Quikrete is the brand of play sand that I usually buy for my tanks. I did not however know that they make more than one type, so when I googled where to find and went to buy a bag I was surprised to see this sand that doesn't look at all like what I've used before. Has anyone used the hardscapes for their tank? I am gonna be soo pissed if I can't use this stuff, I've been trying to get to the stupid store to get stupid sand for my stupid fish tank for 3 months. -

If it says it's not suitable for aquariums on the package, I wouldn't use it, just to be safe. I know someone who used Kolorscape play sand (which says in big bold letters, not for aquarium use) and within a year his aquarium glass had a milkiness to it that WOULD NOT improve with anything. Straight bleach, straight CLR, straight Lime-a-way, had no effect whatsoever. It had actually changed the glass itself. The glass was ruined, needless to say, and the only variable that was different was the sand. The fish were fine and the plants did fine (except for a maybe slightly more diatoms than usual) but it was a real bummer nevertheless.

That sound looks almost tan colored. I think you'd be better off using pool filter sand. I've used leveling sand before in aquariums (from Lowe's) and had no issue with it at all.

to me it looks like Quikrete has just done a package remodel. the bag still says play sand.

It doesn't say not for aquariums on the package, it only says not for commercial use. Thanks for the input guys!

I tasted it, it tastes fine, washed it a little more than I normally do and put it in. Seems to be ok, fish are acting normal, colored normal. I'll keep a close eye on them, if anyone starts to look/act off, I'll remove everyone and take it out. I will be the AC guinea pig for this stuff, lol.

I wouldn't worry, then.

...and lol about tasting it ;) I get what you mean, though!

I went onto their website too, because it says to go on for more info about the product, also didn't say anything about aquariums there. The fish seem happier, but that could be because I also got them some clay pots.
