Quikrete All-Purpose Sand for the Aquarium

Either use what Bellum showed you, or got to Home Depot and get plain play sand. Quickcrete products scare me too..

You can also get pool sand at any pool supply store.

i wouldnt if it was me. i pour a lot of concrete at work( a couple thousand yards a year) and i wouldnt want nothing that has to do with concrete in my tank. concrete will make your skin burn after a while so i cant imagine what it would do to your fish sitting in your tank for that long

I will also cosign the suggestions of pool sand. I'm going to pick up a bag this week for my shrimp tank :)

Quikrete Sand is a brand name and is not cement. They call QK Sand Mix for cement and QK Gravel Mix for concrete. These are three different products.

Pool filter sand or play sand is a better choice as the grains are more uniform in size, have less dust, and has fewer sharp edges on the grains. It also is known generically as tube sand. Yes I have used it and no problems doing so.

i understand that but there all processed at the same place. the same convayer belts that bring the sand into the building for packaging also brings in stone, portland cement as well as the sand. IMO i would not use it. theres many other choices out there instead of using something made by a concrete company.

You have got to be kidding me. I work at a hardware store that sells "tube sand" and had NO IDEA it was the same thing. I'll be darned.

Thanks for sharing that little tip!
