I have a pair of Purple-Spotted Gudgeons (Mogurnda adspersa) that spawn at least once a week. Mom lays 100s of eggs on the glass & Dad fans them. They live in my 90g community tank. Every morning the eggs are gone, to who knows. I tried to put the pair into the only other extra tank I have, a 15g, but they were very unhappy in there. Since the eggs are on the glass, I am worried about scraping them off, to put in the 15g, they might get damaged. Also, I worry about fungus, since Dad wouldn't be caring for them in the smaller tank. I've tried to offer them a piece of slate, but they choose the glass. Last night I left the light on, this morning the eggs & Dad are still there. I guess I'll just keep the light on for a few days. I thought maybe I would scrape them off in 4-5 days, Just before they hatch & put thim the other tank. What do you think?

If the PVC pipe suggested in the BW thread doesn't work, try a small drinking glass as a cave, maybe they will spawn on that glass instead and you could then move the eggs easier. Just a thought. :D

I moved all the eggs to my 15g. I have a sponge attached to a powerhead, it should give the eggs the necessary water flow, since Dad won't be fanning them anymore. I don't have any methelane blue & tomorrow's Easter. Is there any other antibiotic I can use against fungus? My extra med stock consists of: Kanacyn, Maracyn, Nitrofura-G, Discomed, Hex-a-Mit, Quick Cure, Rid Ich & Melafix. Most of these meds are very old, as I have learned to care properly for my fish & they never are sick. The Melafix & Discomed are fairly new.

While they were still on the glass, I was looking at them through a magnifying glass & I could see their tails move! They're only a little more than 24 hours old. Dad keeps attacking me, he actually jumped out of the water to try & bite me!

I am very interested in how you care for your Mogurnda adspersa. I have a female mogurnda morgurda, the northern purple spot gudgeon. I know they are almost identical. I don't have a male because now I am afraid to add another one to the tank. Do you keep yours in totally fresh water? Is your water hard or soft? My water is hard and my ph is 7.4. I have a really hard time finding consistant information on these fish. this is such a great fish, she takes food right from my hand and I can even pet her.
thanks for any input and good luck with your eggs!!

These are strictly FW fish. I don't really concern myself with hardness. I must be doing something right, because they spawn almost every week or so. I do 50% water changes & feed them crickets 2x/week, along with plankton & live blackworms.
they live in a 90gal community tank with rainbows, loaches assorted plecos & other catfish & oddballs. They're fairly large, the male being about 6" & female about 7 1/2" & much thicker.

My female is about 6 inches long now. She is a really finicky eater and takes a lot of patients to feed. I've had her for about 1 1/2 years. Actually she is a pain in the butt but I love her anyway. I think I'll try some earthworms now that it's spring. I don't know what to put in the tank with her (new 72 gallon bow front) because i have a female kribbie that thinks the gudgeon is her mate. I know it's reallly wierd but it's true. I kind of thought that a gold severum or a festivum would be a good tankmate. I also plan on getting some larger rainbows. The kribbie tryed to kill my dwarf rainbows. She succeded in killing two. I also have a 10 inch pleco with her now. do you think a severum or festivum would work with these guys. I am so scared to cause trouble.
Thanks in advance!!!

Yes that is a really great site. I've checked that site many times. there is one thing that lots of fish sites don't have and that is compatability charts. I know it's damned near imposible to list all the fish that can live with other fish and personalities play a big part. Who would have thought that a kribbie would think a gudgeon is her mate for instance.
