does anyone know anything about tiger barb breeding? i think one of mine is pregnant, will i need to separate her from the rest? or is she safe to be in the tank with the other three tiger barbs without fear of her or the others eating the eggs/fry?

the only other things in the tank are 2 ottos and a albino cory cat... if the tiger barbs wont eat the eggs/fry i can move the cory, what do you think?

thanks!

Tiger barbs don't get pregnant. They do season up under good water conditions for breeding if there are males present. In order to spawn them you will have to put her in a separate tank with other tigers(males) and if the conditions are right they will spawn.

well, my terms were wrong, but she LOOKS like her tummy is full of eggs! if she lays them, how do i know they've been fertilized? i was reading up a bit, and it seems they like a smooth place to spawn, should i stick a big flat rock in there?

and then after i see the eggs on it, pull it out and put it in a seprate tank?

No. That's how many cichlids spawn.

Tiger barbs are adhesive egg scatterers.

WetmanNY has been recommending Google for finding out this sort of information and I can totally second his recommendation. Try entering "tiger barb breeding" into it.

If you have a spare 15 or 20 gallon long tank, take enough water out of your aquarium to fill it about 3-4". Then stick as much java moss as you can in there and put "Seasoned" females in, along with males. By seasoned I mean roe-laden(as you seem to describe) in your post. If/when they are ready they will spawn. The reason for the low water is that it gives them less opportunity to eat eggs, once scattered and attached to the moss. After spawning take all adults out of the aquarium. Leave eggs and moss in. Soon you will see wrigglers.
There you go......
