Power Wheels Mod... Pics ADDED ! 56k Warning
Last night at about 9 my neighbor and I had a few cocktails and decided it would be the greatest thing to mod our kids power wheels.
This was no ordinary 18v mod, this was a full blown gas powered extravaganza. We cut and hacked and sliced into the first test subject, a John Deere Gator Power Wheels. After a few hours we were high-fiving and getting antsy.
This fueled our desire to go, go, go, on this build. We kept at it and installed the transmission in the back, and secured it in place with some good country-style ingenuity. Cutting, welding, and hacking the whole time, we were encouraged to start mocking up the 32:1 gas powered weed whacker engine. We cut the shaft and slowly mocked this thing in place.
The first shaft we tried worked for two minutes as it was one of those braided, flexible drive shafts. We welded that to the transmission shaft and fired it up... To see the axles spin might have been the coolest, and most giddy moment of the day... Just two dads sitting around in a garage with power tools, welding machines, air tools and engines, oh yeah and cold beverages to spark a greater interest in the advancement of this thing... The first flex shaft broke after a few mionutes, so we went with a solid shaft and baddah-bing, Frankenstein arose from the empty cans of our adult beverages...
@ 2am we had the Toro trimmer motor installed and the transmisstion installed and were looking at how to install the wheels... We continued for a few, then gave up for the night because of the carbon monoxide headaches from the 2 stroke smoke.
It was a great time and will update with pics in a few minutes. He took many pics of the progress on his phone, but I didnt have mine, so I will grab my camera, and go shoot some off.
