Pool filter sand in the winter?

So I've posted before asking where I can get pool filter sand. I was told Home Depot, Lowes, Ace hardware, etc. I've been to Home Depot and Lowes, no luck there. I called Ace, I told them I heard they carry it, they told me they did but it's a seasonal item. I'm assuming it was seasonal at Home Depot and Lowes too. I also went to a 'local' pool supply store, they were closed, I'm assuming they won't be open for months because it's a seasonal store.

Can anybody recommend where I should look to get pool filter sand in the winter? I don't want to spend $60 on shipping for a $20 item either. :help2:

How much do you need?

Call the manufacturer and ask for a list of dealers in your area, then call them to see if anyone's open this time of year.

I found mine at a pool/spa/rec room place. $4.xx a 50lb bag.

Got mine at a pool/spa place as well but I could see why they would be closed this time of year...I don't believe Home Depot carries PF sand, only play sand. At least every one in my area does.

I would look into other pool supply stores as there are ones that are still open. My friend has a indoor pool on his estate and has servicing done from a pool service company on a weekly basis. I don't believe you will find pool filter sand at Home Depot and Lowes though; play sand, yes. :)

The only thing we found at the hardware stores in November when looking for pool filter sand was the "pool filter sand plus" which has additivies to prevent mildew and such, and which I am almost 100% positive is not good for fish. We were able to locate plain pool filter sand at a pool and spa store. It was still fairly inexpensive, and they carry it pretty much year round. They are also open year round since they supply more than just pool supplies with the whole "spa" thing they have going on. :)

look up pool and spa service companys im sure they can sell it to you or tell you where you can get it in the winter.

Where are you located? I have a few bags of un-open Ace pool filter sand sitting in the storage shed.

Connecticut. As for finding a pool service store, there's one within an hour of me and I'm not sure if they were just closed the day I went there or if they are closed for the season. I will do some research though.

They sell crafty sand (I'm not sure that is the name) at menards. Is a white-ish silica sand for about 4 bucks. Also it needs almost no rinsing. check there and give it a try. I am almost sure that's what you're looking for.
Good luck.
EDIT: Sorry just checked and it looks like there are not menards stores in conneticut :(
