I have a pleco in a 5.5 gallon. I know someone who breeds them who is going to tade me for a smaller one once mine gets too big for my tank. Also mine will only grow to a maximum of about 4 inches. Is my pleco ok in the tank or should not have one at all??

The only of the algae eater family that I would even think of keeping in a 5 gallon tank is the otto. The smallest tank for a dwarf pleco is really a 10 gallon tank, IMO. Plecos, even small ones, produce a super amount of waste. In a 5 gallon tank unless you are doing water changes every couple of days then it is way too much for such a small tank with lots of other fish to handle.
I also wouldn't put a pleco in a 5.5g. Even though they are small they still produce tons of waste. I would say min is a 10g for a dwarf pleco. I wouldn't even add an oto in a 5g as they need to be in groups of aleast 3 and are sensitive to water quality.
Yes, i also agree. ottos are they way to go. I tried a pleco in a 5 gallon once. lets just say it didnt work out to good.
BTW: I thought ottos were dwarf plecos!, at least. thats my fish book says. but not every one can be right, even when writing a book.

yes otos are dawrf plecos.The only problem with getting a oto for a 5g is that they need groups and a 5g isn't big enough for a group of otos.
