With a diet of algae wafers 2x a week and zuchini / cucumber the rest of the week, about how long would one expect it to take a albino BN and a clown pleco to reach their maximum sizes.

Just want to make the proper plans / arrangements :grinyes:

I can't say its a fact- but for some reason I seem to recall that fish will grow until they die, albeit in later years at an almost imperceptable rate.

If that is correct than your bn will grow until it dies.

well yes...I think that general rule applies to all organisms in one respect or another (e.g. certain parts of humans constantly grow). However, for example, gibbiceps generally grow rather rapidly until they get to be about a ft long and then their growth rate slows down. Or common plecos...which might take several years to get to their "adult" size of 2+ feet.

IMO you should upgrade sooner rather then later as you have both in a 15g it probably won't be that long before your BN and clown plec have territory issues. As they mature they will both want to be king of the tank and will probably scrap quite a bit we have 3 plecos in a 180g and they have territory battles.

our gibbiceps has taken almost 2 years to reach 8 inches, but we had him seriously underhoused initially. in the last 4 months or so hes grown 2 inches. and is getting bigger at a ridiculous rate

both are about an inch long.

as for territorial issues...both of these plecos are known to be very calm, passive community fish. I know you can keep several different wood eating species of pleco (which is what the clown is) in a tank and they will graze on driftwood side by side. As for the BN, I've yet to read about any territorial issues nor have I seen anything yet (despite seeing them next to each other on many occasions).

I know at full length the tank isn't going to be an ideal home for them...nor do I plan for it to be a permanent home. But in the meantime, unless some issue does arise, I'm not expecting the tank size to be much of a detriment these guys.

i have 90Gal. and my tank seemes a little a little snug, I have lots of rocks and plants that i think I'll start removing as the pleco's show the need for more space. mine are about 5-1/2 inches they are 9 months old.

commons grow a lot bigger than either the clown or the bn.

I somewhat understand the growth rate of plecos. I had a gibbicep that grew from under and inch to over 4 in about 5-6 months. I'm just wondering if the growth rate is comparable (i.e. a ratio between adult size and growth rate) or if I can't make that connection. Just trying to figure out how long it'll take these 2 guys to break 4"

i have a common plec and a clown plec. i dont know where the clown plec is though hes in there somewhere. they dont fight but they dont care for one another. they dont even acknowlage one anothers existance
