Plants that will grow out of tank like bog ?

Hi
I have a 55 gallon tank which I am setting up for either firemouth cichlids or blue acara.
I want to plant some bog type plants in sump (15 gallon long 21 inches long ) I am not into sumps but my dad installed it as he enjoys these projects than he gets bored and walks away from it .
Either way the sump is in direct sunlight as its by window it gets lots sun (Florida) room is ac so main tank doesnt get hot .
I wanted to use sump as bog type plant "filter" any idea what I can use ?

I plan to plant plants in pots with gravel or rock wool or just hold in place with mesh.

I was reading up on bocopa and this plant does the one site showed it out of guys tank It spred to his other tanks that way..
 
I remember reading about someone growing a split leaf philodendron in his tank water to take out nitrates. You're just looking for a showy plant you can grow in the sump to filter your water right? Not necessarily any sort of aquarium plant?

I'll second the bacopa. I got some lemon bacopa that was grown terrestrially. it was thick and had a strong lemony scent... but once it's roots started getting wet, it grew smaller, more vine like and greener, and had less scent... it seems to look for the water column and send long roots out. I've also planted it immersed, and it grows great even in low light.

Right no particular plant. My grandmother suggested potatoes but I dont want huge potato stalks growing by the tank lol.
philpdendron looks good as does other plants some here have posted going to read about it now as would like using diff plants to see which does best.

Oh that was my first choice but its illegal here .
They have removed it from canals and lots of the everglades. I think manatees have starved since they removed it as over the yrs they grew to depend on it (there used to be manatees in canal not far from here till they removed the water hycathin than manatees faded away).

It was the plant of choice for lots ponds as grew strong fat and great all yr long in Florida . The other choices others have posted look good but I agree water hycathin was worth its weight in gold .
I regret not keeping a few in yard water tubs
