This summer my dad and I are planning on getting our own place. -We currently are living with my Uncle.- My dad loves looking around at the LFS, and found his favorite setup--four 54 gallon corner tanks all put back to back. They create the illusion of one giant circular tank, with the convenience of being separate. Doing four corner tanks might be overdoing it in a home setting, though. So I decided that two corner tanks against the wall, back to back, would look nice. That way he could have a semi-circle. Anywho, I know he loves both saltwater and freshwater, so I'm thinking about making one salt and one fresh. This is the saltwater thread. Here's the freshwater thread.

So first things first, I know almost nothing about saltwater aquariums. I know they are generally more expensive, and the seem to be lightly stocked. I also know that they seem to be slightly more work than freshwater, but look very rewarding. Any help with getting me started in the right direction would be great. Recommend tank size, equipment, etc. The tank will need to be the same size as the freshwater tank.

One thing I'd like to mention is that my dad seems to like clown fish. Cliche, but he's always liked the little guys. He also seems to be a fan of tangs. I don't know much, so suggest fish you think would work.

I'd like to try my had at different corals and such, too.

You wont be able to get any tangs they need a 75-100 gal tank to be happy. Here is a link for beginner fish :

I would recommend 3 occelaris clowns, some fire fish, any kind of goby, cardinals, and coral beauty angle fish. Dont get anything like the lionfish idk why its on the beginners list. If you want corals then u will need to work harder and spend more money. IDK a lot about coals maybe reefscape, greech, or conski could help with that. I do have a link for them :

You will need to cycle your tank and that will take a couple of weeks. To cycle you need to fill tank with saltwater, test to see where parameters are (the same a freshwater just with diff equipment, u know ammonia, nitrates, that stuff), next get like 30-40 lbs of live rock , then put some fish food in the start cycle. When cycle is complete you can put some fish in. Start with small less expensive fish in first ( green chromis was my first sw fish). Corals go in last i think.
