I was thinking about adding a pitbull pleco to my tank. I just have a few questions before i go out and get one. First, do i even have the room in my tank? My stock list is in my sig. If needed i could be persuaded to say goodbye to the guppies because i only got them for my g/f anyway. Second, does the pitbull pleco need driftwood? I don't really have the room in my tank for it and i don't know where i would get it either. I don't want to go through all the trouble if it isn't absolutely necessary. Thanks in advance.

I think one would be good, but they like to be in groups of atleast 3. So yes you would have to remove either the 3 platys or a few guppies, as they get to 2.5in or 6cm. They are supposedly good around plants and do need a little driftwood too.

Ok, well I went and looked at my lfs and they don't have any pitbull pleco, but they do have a few otos. So which would be better. Get 3 pitbull plecos or 4 or 5 otos? I'm guessing the otos cause they are smaller? But which one would be better at eating brown spot algae on the glass and decor?

EDIT: And if the plecos would be the better choice, i think i might have my g/f talked into letting me start her a tank so she can have "her" guppies at her house. :-)

Well, I got 4 otos today. They seem to be doing well. They latched onto my amazon sword as soon as they left the net. I think they may be one of my new favorite fish in the tank. I can't believe i never looked at them before. I also picked up a penguin 150 so i can run 2 filters.

I hope it doesn't matter that i'm adding onto this thread, but i have a few questions about the otos. How do i know whether they are getting enough algae? RIght now i have quite a bit because there was nothing in my tank to eat it, but they seem like they might make short work of it. I know this sounds weird, but is there a way to grow more? I could just supplement with algae wafers or squash, but i'm afraid they will get outcompeted by the other fish.

You can try growing some on smooth light colored rocks outdoors or in a sunny window. My otos like shrimp & earthworm pellets rather than algae wafers.

The rock idea sounds cool. I just have to put some river stones in a shallow container of water? I read on another forum that otos don't eat the green algae that grows on the rocks though. Is that true?
