Hey, I just got 3 little red belly piranhas & I was just wondering what some other people use as their staple diet. I have some flakes and freeze dried blood worms now that I feed my fry. I was just looking for a cheapish less messy type of staple food.

Varying the food diet by including a range of live foods, frozen and freeze-dried is staple enough. Buying cheap quality of foods simply may not be nutritious enough to the fish.

look into a mix of frozen foods like beef heart, mysis shrimp and blood worms and mix in also things like a good quality pellet food and for live foods things like crickets and live tubiflex worms and if you want to feed live fish then breed your own guppies or mollies.

Yeah, I have a bunch of convict fry and a breeding pair, I have crickets, ghost shrimp, freeze dried blood worms, frozen (brine shrimp, blood worms, and a couple different mixes), but I was just wondering what type of pellets might be economical to use as their primary food source, or just pellets that they would like and maybe not be too messy.? I do also use comets and rosies for my gar, but I usually keep them for a while and do very regular water changes and feed them good, so I use them on occasion.

what about earthworms?? they dont seem like they would be very nutricious... and probably really messy..?

They can be messy. Feed one at a time. You can chopped them but I wouldn't think about it. They're nutritious by the way and make sure you get them from clean sources, not gardens with pesticides.
