Putting something like aragonite or crushed coral as your substrate helps, or crushed coral in a bag in your filter
Or rocks that contain carbonate, like seiryu stone.
But, above all else, test it and see what it is.. I'm not going to say to use a liquid test kit, because meh.. it's quicker and easier and I don't think you really need to know exact numbers.
