ok what people food will a betta eat? how about guppy fry? or hoplos? or pleco? or red tailed shark? bala sharks?

For some reason (actually from reading these forums) i need to do something besides flakes for most of the fish and shrimp pellets for the hoplos and betta pellets for the betta... should i use a vitamin supplement?

Here is a mix I make. 1lb uncooked Shrimp, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1200mg Calcium +D, 1800 mg multivitamin (no iron). Run it through a meat grinder twice, crush the calcium and multivitamins before hand then add it to the shrimp after. Get a 1 gallon plastic zip lock bag, put all the food in it, push the food out into a flat, get as much air out of it as you can seal it and throw it in the freezer. Very very good food.

Pleco - Blanched fresh spinach or other type of green, sliced cucumbers.

Look close at my avitar. You can se corys with their noses in some spinach.

do these items need to be weighted? and what does everyone think of tubifex worms? are they good or bad? and what brand is the best brand of fish food?

I use a clip for the spinanch and etc.

I've used FD Tubifex worms for years but never any other type due to a fear of diseases. It is my understanding the they do not grow in the most healthy places.

As far as best fish food, it is, IMO, simply a matter of personal choice. I believe the majority of foods on the market are good for the fish. Just feed a varied diet, and that doesn't mean just different colored flakes, in the appropriate size for the fish and they do fine.

You also have to present the food right. You know, make sure you have some foods that sink for the bottom feeders and foods that float a little longer for the top feeders.

Having said all of that, I prefer Mega-One fish food because I have bought into their hype on their contents: :)

Raw Beef Liver for Bettas?

When I was a kid my father raised bettas, and somewhere he picked up that small bits of raw beef liver is good for them. I carried on doing that when my kids had bettas, and they do love it! But don't really know the health factor.

I used to feed beef liver to larger fish but lately I read someplace that it isn't good for them. It was not from a food producer either.

will everyone be ok with bloodworms, brine shrimp, shrimp pellets, veggie mix, and flakes for the adults? and zoo plankton flakes grounded up for fry?

sounds good :thm: !! I usually just give my fish flakes, bloodworms, freeze dried shrimp, shrimp pellets, fd tubifex worms, algae pellets and the occasional vegetable a couple of times a month when I make a salad

Along those lines (ppl food 4 fish)...I was cooking some salmon last night and thought my fish might like some and the next thing I knew they were fleeing for their lives from it (though they calmed down after five minutes or so). I eventually fished it out of the tank and wondered why they wouldn't eat it. I figured they would rather eat another fish than a cow...now I'm not so sure.

Oh yeah, is it not healthy in case there might be additives (though there aren't supposed to be any)?

Thanks
